Il 27 giugno a Sansepolcro (AR), si è svolta la prima giornata di We Story (il festival delle storie da raccontare) organizzato dallo staff di effetto K, che ringraziamo particolarmente per la disponibilità.
La meravigliosa cornice del chiostro di San Francesco ha ospitato il format Sei pezzi facili, che in questa edizione ha accolto Aimone Romizi ed Alessandro Guercini della band incendiaria Fast Animals and Slow Kids.
I due si sono esibiti suonando le cover più rappresentative della loro storia, aggiungendo due pezzi del loro repertorio, “Non Potrei Mai” e “A Cosa Ci Serve“.
Il gruppo di Koinervetti li ha incontrati per fare due chiacchiere, buona lettura!
K: Ciao ragazzi, come state?
Alessandro Guercini: Un po’ stanchini e accaldati, ma bene.
Aimone Romizi: Esattamente! Sarà un’estate calda e piena di concerti da suonare.
K: Quali sono le influenze musicali che predominano nel sound dei FASK?
Aimone: In quasi 10 anni di carriera posso dire che sono cambiate con il passare del tempo, crescendo insieme ci siamo anche influenzati a vicenda. Forse Punk detto in maniera molto generale. Io per esempio sfociavo parecchio nell’Hardcore.
Alessandro: “Jimmy Eat World”, “The Get Up Kids“… Siamo cresciuti un po’ con questo genere.
Aimone: Abbiamo avuto la fortuna di incontrare dei personaggi che non sono neanche tanto distanti da dove ci troviamo oggi, ad esempio il gruppo di ragazzi di Umbertide (ToLoseLaTrack n.d.r.), che ci hanno influenzato molto. Viaggiando tanto insieme, quasi 24 ore su 24 tutti attaccati, abbiamo avuto l’opportunità di incontrarci musicalmente e di ampliare i nostri ascolti. Questo penso che sia uno dei nostri periodi più Rock, in assoluto. È un periodo dove ascoltiamo molto Classic Rock, come Bruce Springsteen, R.E.M, The Smiths.

K: Quanto ha influito il film di Tom Ford “Animali Notturni” nella scelta del titolo dell’album?
Aimone: Zero, proprio zero.
Alessandro: Uno dei motivi per cui non lo volevamo chiamare “Animali Notturni” era questo.
Aimone: In realtà siamo anche contenti, abbiamo visto il film e ci è piaciuto, però non ci ha influenzato minimamente. Sicuramente Tom Ford si è arrabbiato… Avrà pensato: “Adesso ai FASK gliene dico quattro”. (Ridono)
K: Tempo fa abbiamo ritrovato una vecchia email con la vostra prima biografia, inviata in occasione di un concerto al Parco Roccolo di San Giustino (PG), nella quale c’è un ironico “non abbiamo mai suonato oltre i colli perugini, per un senso comune di xenofobia nei confronti del prossimo “.
Adesso che suonate in tutta Italia, come vivete questa cosa?
Aimone: Aaah ragazzi il Parco Roccolo, ci suonammo in spalla al Pan del Diavolo e i Nobraino! Anche qui comunque è una cosa a cui ci siamo abituati perché prima, veramente, non uscivamo mai dall’area umbra. Il parco dista nemmeno un’oretta da Perugia. In passato già suonare era un successo in generale. Non conta tanto il luogo perché suonare a San Giustino, per esempio, è come suonare a Bologna. Non lo dico per sminuire Bologna o per mettere in risalto San Giustino, quanto per mettere in risalto che è la musica la cosa importante. È qualcosa che facciamo anche per noi stessi, con la fortuna che essere così amici ci ha aiutati a viverla insieme, come un fatto fisiologico, senza far sentire troppo il peso dello stress sulle spalle.
K: Parlando di Animali Notturni, abbiamo notato durante l’ascolto che l’album sembra diviso in due parti, una un po’ più “scura” e l’altra dove c’è una ripresa, ci puoi spiegare l’idea di queste due anime parallele?
Aimone: Anche qui la risposta è abbastanza semplice. Siamo una band che scrive cose che sono connesse alle nostre vite, non riusciamo mai a distaccarci da quello che è la nostra esperienza. Nella stesura di questo disco sono successe delle cose che possono succedere nella vita di ciascuno, solo che la nostra è fortunata perché, nel bene o nell’oscurità (come si suol dire), quelle cose finiscono in musica. Le codifichiamo nei nostri pezzi. Anzi, un po’ come i Ghostbusters, le mettiamo dentro una scatola, come i fantasmi. Una scatola che per noi è la musica. In parte (con questo approccio) sacrifichi un po’ di bellezza, di felicità, ma nella stragrande maggioranza dei casi riesci ad incasellare i mostri e i problemi che hai, che magari al di fuori non potranno essere immensi ma che per la tua vita possono essere dei drammi. Quindi, questo disco fondamentalmente è andato un po’ a scavare in noi stessi. Può essere ricondotto a due anime contrapposte ma che sono da sempre coesistite in noi, che le abbiamo messe in ordine: prima l’oscurità, poi la ripresa. Un disco con una sua forma: un suo inizio, un suo sviluppo ed un suo cambiamento. Senza bloccare il fluire delle cose che stanno accadendo, come fosse tutto una nostra autobiografia.
Alessandro: Per esempio l’ultima canzone del disco è Novecento ed è la canzone più speranzosa, e dà perfettamente l’idea.
K: Com’è stato il feedback per quanto riguarda le nuove canzoni?

Aimone: È stato pauroso! Cantano tutti e tutto! Pubblico nuovo e facce che non avevamo mai visto prima; dopo 10 anni anche questa per noi è una conquista, vuol dire che c’è qualcosa da dire, qualcosa da raccontare, e questo è importante, altrimenti stai sempre sul filo del baratro. Inizialmente eravamo un po’ spaventati perché qualcuno magari avrebbe potuto dire: “Questo disco è un po’ pop, dove sono le chitarre?”, ma era solo questione di tempo, dopodiché tutti avrebbero capito ed infatti così è stato. Quando fai uscire qualcosa per un pubblico che già ti ascolta è chiaro che alcune cose verranno viste in un modo e altre diversamente, ma alla fine noi abbiamo fatto un disco che ci rappresenta e allora… Dritti per la nostra strada! Se c’è una cosa giusta che abbiamo detto (nel 2012) è: “uniti e forti con noi stessi fino alla fine”, lo “slogan” di Hybris. Ed è una cosa che ci portiamo dietro, una delle frasi che più rappresenta l’etica con cui facciamo musica, è un’etica libera. Se siamo arrivati qui vuol dire che la risposta è stata positiva.
K: È mai successo che qualche fan vi abbia scritto per dirvi che una vostra canzone è stata “terapeutica”, magari dopo una rottura?
Aimone: Ma scherzi? Certe volte ti rendi conto che alcune cose sono così pesanti da dire: “Oh cazzo!”. Cose che ci hanno fatto capire quanto la musica può essere importante per qualcuno, estremamente terapeutica. Capita, ascoltando un pezzo di un’artista che ci piace, di cambiare (umore) insieme alla canzone. Da ascoltatore si sente immediatamente. Quando sei l’artista e stai donando tu qualcosa a qualcuno attraverso la musica invece è difficile da percepire. Quando accade ci aiuta non solo a capire l’importanza di quello che facciamo, aumenta ancor più la nostra sensibilità nei confronti dell’uomo. Non si tratta solo di una rottura, ma stiamo parlando di qualsiasi trauma possibile, molto spesso drammi che non ti aspettavi. Dunque, anche se non ha aiutato al 100% la persona che mi ha scritto, il fatto che (una canzone) sia riuscita a metterci in connessione ed a suscitare emozioni positive è importantissimo e migliora tanto anche me.
K: Spesso nei testi parlate di paure. Che paure avevate agli inizi e che paure avete ora, con dieci anni di carriera?
Aimone: Questa è una domanda da un milione di dollari! (Ride)
Alessandro: Alla fine le paure sono sempre quelle dell’inizio: trovare un posto nella vita o nel mondo. Chiedersi: “Il mio posto è la musica oppure no?” e trovarsi a dover scegliere.
Aimone: E noi abbiamo scelto di essere musicisti… Finché dura!
Comunque le paure toccano tanti aspetti connessi all’essere umano, credo molte di esse siano “contestualizzate” al momento. Io adesso sono spaventato da cose che 10 anni fa non mi influenzavano. Per esempio, ora mi chiedo: “E se il mutuo da pagare influenzasse il mio modo di fare musica? E se il mutuo mi portasse a non essere ‘puro’ nei confronti della musica come faccio?”. Tutte queste fobie sono connesse alla musica per l’appunto, ma visto che la musica è la mia vita sono connesse direttamente a me.
Più nello specifico di così penso non si possa andare! (Ride)
K: I vostri amici Zen Circus hanno corteggiato Sanremo per un paio di anni. Voi vedete nel vostro futuro una partecipazione al Festival?
Alessandro: Escluderla a priori forse no! (Ride)
Aimone: Guarda, vedere un’orchestra che suona un nostro pezzo è il sogno della nostra vita, dato che i nostri pezzi sono “over-arrangiati” (inserimento di ulteriori strumenti all’arrangiamento originale della canzone in fase di registrazione n.d.r) .
Io da una parte ancora mi sento una persona che sta per strada, non so se mi spiego. Fare i chilometri con il furgone e conoscere le persone è ancora bellissimo per me! Sanremo ti cambia tanto, quindi devi essere cosciente del percorso che stai intraprendendo. Gli Zen hanno fatto molto bene perché sono una band solida, dopo anni che suonano nel migliore dei modi, non c’erano compromessi, quindi l’ho visto molto un percorso fisiologico. Se mai noi proveremo a farlo accadrà nel momento in cui sentiremo la scelta giusta nelle nostre corde. In questa fase siamo ancora in un periodo in cui l’artista si deve far ascoltare il più possibile, parlare con tutti, conoscere il mondo nel massimo del suo potenziale.
K: Ci hai fatto venire in mente, in fatto di “conoscere la gente”, il video di Non potrei mai. In particolare Amerigo.
Aimone: Il mitico Amerigo! Quello è un video incredibile, che percorso! L’esperienza di condividere un paio di giorni con questo personaggio è stata meravigliosa. Ci è venuto a trovare anche al 1° maggio a Roma. Lui ha scelto ad un certo punto della sua vita di ballare per strada, questo è il suo “lavoro”. Lo fa con una dignità d una sensibilità artistica che è difficile trovare nelle persone. Questa è una di quelle cose per cui ringrazio sempre la musica.
Anche l’aspetto visivo conta molto! Per esempio, quando guardavi David Bowie ti innamoravi anche del personaggio, ecco, Amerigo ha un potere molto simile. Lui si mette a ballare davanti a un concerto e il concerto diventa più bello, si riempie di gente che lo guarda. C’è anche qualcosa di pedagogico in Amerigo. Tra l’altro, lui è un personaggio contrastante e contrastato, dentro di sé vivono drammi pesantissimi. Averlo conosciuto è stata un’esperienza sensibilizzante.
K: Ci potete raccontare qualcosa dell’esperienza Primo Maggio di Roma? Quali sono i momenti più belli che avete condiviso in quella giornata?
Aimone: Io lo riconnetto alla domanda delle paure! (Ride)
Il Primo Maggio è stato un concerto abbastanza pesante devo dire, perché siamo riusciti ad andare là come primissimo live, con due pezzi nuovi e con un sistema di ascolto completamente nuovo. Salendo sul palco praticamente alla cieca.
Alessandro: È stata l’ansia più grande degli ultimi anni. Io ho tolto le auricolari mentre ero sul palco, non mi andavano e non capivo perché. Ho suonato senza sentire niente oltre che l’amplificatore! (Ride)
Aimone: Un’ansia gigantesca perché avevamo unito un sacco di cose, di cambiamenti, stava partendo un periodo pesantissimo, centomila cose da fare. Poi un primo concerto con 70.000 persone… Però mi sono diverto tanto!
Alessandro: Io ho visto solo ombrelli! (Ride)
K: Ma quindi come si reagisce al presente?
Aimone: Aaaaah beh, noi abbiamo reagito suonando, perché è una cosa in cui crediamo. Perciò fate quello che vi piace!
K: …E forse è la felicità?
Aimone: Ma guarda, in questo periodo siamo abbastanza felici… Ma non lo è mai! (Ride)
