K: Ciao Francesco! Innanzitutto parlaci della tua musica: che tematiche tratti e quali sono le tue influenze?
F: La mia musica mi rappresenta totalmente a 360°! Scrivo di quello che sono, di quello che penso, delle mie esperienze. Mi piace essere pungente, ironico, a volte sentimentale, perché anche quello è una delle sfaccettature della mia arte. Le tematiche penso siano una cosa molto importante, i cantanti devono parlare di qualcosa, anche se non è ovviamente un obbligo. Che si parli del sociale, d’amore o di politica, è importante lasciare un pensiero, un messaggio, una dedica. Noi cantanti abbiamo la fortuna di avere una grossa cassa di risonanza cantando quel che scriviamo di fronte a chi ci ascolta. Dovremmo sfruttare al meglio questa risorsa, ed io ovviamente cerco di fare il possibile! Le mie influenze sono “importate” per lo più dalle Rock band anni ’80 e il Gangsta Rap anni 90, ma anche dal complesso e ricchissimo cantautorato italiano dagli anni ’70 ai primi del 2000.
K: Sappiamo del tuo passato come rapper nel duo Micro De Rua. Come mai questa decisione avviare una carriera solista come Francesco Setta?
F: Ho studiato per molti anni canto senza mai avere il coraggio di mettermi veramente in gioco, per me cantare era una vera utopia. Non mi sentivo intonato, non riuscivo ad immaginarmi a cantare davanti ad un pubblico. Poi la crescente voglia di scrivere qualcosa di diverso, di scrivere parole da cantare, da esprimere con un intensità emotiva differente, mi ha fatto cambiare idea. Per quanto riguarda il progetto Micro De Rua, io sono ancora facente parte del gruppo a tutti gli effetti. Non ci siamo sciolti, anzi, collaboreremo in un pezzo del mio prossimo disco….. Accettate anche gli spoiler?
K: Come mai l’idea di mischiare tre generi come il Blues, il Rock e il Rap?
F: Prima di tutto il Rap è un’arte che ho coltivato per molti anni, a cui sono profondamente legato e devoto. In secondo luogo il Blues e il Rock mi hanno cresciuto, li ho sempre ascoltati fin da bambino, sono come una seconda pelle per me. A volte penso che siano i generi a scegliere te e non il contrario!
K: Che cosa ti ha portato a scrivere musica?
F: Sicuramente il bisogno di dare sfogo a delle emozioni represse dentro di me! Quello che non riuscivo a esprimere a parole lo scrivevo sopra un foglio di carta, nascondendolo al resto del mondo all’inizio. Per me era un vero e proprio toccasana, mi faceva sentire più leggero, libero, capace di affrontare questi fardelli con uno spirito diverso.
K: Parlaci del tuo singolo Uomo per Metà.
F: Uomo per metà racconta di una vera e propria lotta interiore tra la natura umana e quella animale. Una lotta che dura dalla notte dei tempi, da quando l’animale si è fatto uomo. Questo confronto mi ha sempre affascinato, fino a che punto siamo uomini? Quando entra in gioco l’istinto animale? Sono domande importanti da porsi per conoscere se stessi fino in fondo, scalfendo la superficialità della società moderna nei riguardi di argomenti come questo. Ho scelto la figura del lupo perché mi ha sempre affascinato. Lo ritengo una figura, forte, elegante, di una bellezza estetica e morale incredibile, a tratti quasi mistica. Inoltre il lupo è stato spesso protagonista di alcuni dei miei sogni più vividi, ma anche di alcuni incubi.
K: Com’è il riscontro del pubblico riguardo al tuo progetto?
F: Finora positivo! Anzi, oltre le mie aspettative iniziali oserei dire. La musica penso che sia un lungo percorso di crescita personale e artistica, e di questo il pubblico se ne accorge. La qualità nel fare musica non si ottiene dall’oggi al domani, il riscontro si ottiene anche curando i propri lavori con costante impegno. Ovviamente c’è anche chi ha la fortuna di avere il tanto citato “fattore x”, e qualsiasi cosa tocchi la trasformi in oro come Re Mida.
K: Quest’anno uscirà tra l’altro il tuo primo disco come Francesco Setta, potresti parlarci di questo lavoro?
F: Questo disco si intitolerà proprio Uomo per metà, prende il nome dal singolo. È il risultato di un anno intenso di lavoro in studio e in sala prove. Ho lavorato a stretto contatto con Max Zanotti che ha curato tutta la parte della produzione e mixaggio. Abbiamo sperimentato molto, ma sopratutto abbiamo cercato di cucirmi addosso un sound che rispecchiasse la mia personalità e il mio essere. Dopo svariati tentativi abbiamo imboccato finalmente la strada giusta e i risultati si sentono parecchio.
