Molinere Underwater Park
Scultore e istruttore subacqueo britannico, Taylor installa opere sott’acqua e ne forma dei veri e propri parchi “visitabili”. Nel 2006 ha creato la prima collezione d’arte contemporanea subacquea: il Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park. Comprende 65 sculture che coprono un’area di 800 metri quadri di cui una delle più celebri è The Lost Correspondent. Vediamo un uomo intento a scrivere a macchina con, sulla scrivania, degli articoli degli anni ’70 riguardanti il periodo precedente alla rivoluzione cubana. Oltre a tale implicito messaggio politico, l’opera in sé stessa possiede una palpabile condizione esistenziale, l’uomo impegnato nella quotidianità circondato dal vago e dal caso sotto forma di spume di sabbia (un po’ come il viandante di Friedrich).

Tutte le statue della collezione sono di cemento ed assommano ad un peso totale di 15 tonnellate. La domanda sorge spontanea: una così grande quantità di cemento non sta inquinando il mare dei Caraibi? Al contrario: l’artista utilizza un misto di cemento per uso marino, sabbia e microsilice, da cui deriva calcestruzzo con pH neutro che può resistere centinaia d’anni e, se unito a dei supporti artificiali, facilita e permette l’attaccamento di coralli, spugne ed alghe da cui possono nascere nuove barriere coralline.Vicino alle tante sculture di Taylor già vivono numerose specie come quella del pesce pagliaccio e del pesce pappagallo, a prova di come il progetto sta funzionando.
Ciò che dimostra l’ecosostenibilità di tali opere è il fungere da blocco e da riparo per le tempeste, il loro essere un limite per la pesca intensiva e ovviamente l’attrazione che hanno sui turisti. Quest’ultimo aspetto fa si che le barriere coralline naturali vengano protette dall’invadenza dell’uomo, che è invece spinto a visitare quelle maestosamente create dall’artista.
MUSA
Il più grande museo subacqueo del mondo fu aperto al pubblico nel 2010 e si trova nella costa di Cancún e di Isla Mujeres, Messico. Denominato MUSA (Museo Subacuatico de Arte) accoglie circa 200.000 visitatori ogni anno e racchiude la bellezza di 500 sculture (487 prodotte dalle mani di Taylor).
400 di queste sottostanno al titolo di The Silent Evolution, sono la maggior parte figure di persone comuni, vicine tra loro come in una marcia. Statue volutamente simili alle persone del luogo (scelta dell’artista che accresce la partecipazione della popolazione ospitante la sua arte) che, come fossero loro stessi, scoprono un forte e sconosciuto legame con la natura più nascosta del loro mare. Tra le tante figure stupiscono 6 di queste con la testa affondata nella sabbia, il corpo rigido e nessuna espressione: The Banker. Limpida critica a chi si disinteressa di ciò che lo circonda tanto che arriva ad immergere corpo e anima nelle cose materiali, nell’egoismo e nel male che procura.
Museo Atlantico
Più vicino alla nostra realtà (sotto vari punti di vista) è il Museo Atlantico, situato nelle acque dell’isola di Lanzarote, Spagna. L’itinerario è formato da 10 opere, tutte con l’intento di risvegliare l’emotività del visitatore e soprattutto di provocare in modo intelligente l’umanità. Ci sono magnifiche e crude sculture da togliere il fiato come Inmortal, Crossing the Rubicon, The Human Gyre, ma soprattutto The raft of Lampedusa, un’opera nata con l’auspicio che possa spingere il cuore in gola ed instradare al raziocinio ogni osservatore, in special modo coloro che quotidianamente vivono tra rabbia, paura (del “diverso”) ed apatico distacco la triste ed annosa vicenda degli sbarchi.
L’arte ha una voce potentissima, un’espressione eterna e perfetta, al punto da rendere superfluo qualunque altro commento ma, al contempo, evidenzia la necessità di costruire una profonda riflessione.
