Spesso fatico a trovare qualche amico disposto ad accompagnarmi a spettacoli di band e artisti che mi piacciono.
Non sempre i miei gusti sono condivisi dalla maggior parte della gente. E non tutti sono sempre disponibili o volenterosi ad ampliare il loro bagaglio culturale con nuovi nomi rispetto a quelli che già conoscono ed ascoltano.
Quando però due amici hanno dimostrato una minima percentuale di possibilità ad assistere al concerto dei Diaframma (che si sarebbe tenuto a soli 20 minuti da casa nostra) ho capito che non potevo farmi scappare questa occasione. Ho battuto il ferro finché quei due poveri martiri di Eugenio e Tommaso non si sono lasciati convincere del tutto.
Tornavano al Vidia dopo un anno dal burrascoso “Puttan Tour”. E presentavano l’ultimo album L’abisso a 5 anni di distanza dal precedente Preso Nel Vortice.
Il concerto
Così eccoci in un locale piccolo e dall’acustica rimbombante, con poche persone oltre a noi. E questo mi fa rabbia e tristezza. Proprio non riuscirò mai a capirlo. Com’è possibile che uno dei gruppi di spicco nella new wave italiana, fra i pochissimi a possedere quell’aria dark e gotica, non abbia ad assisterli che qualche vecchio affezionato ed un esiguo numero di giovani appassionati.
Forse è proprio vero: se si fossero formati in Inghilterra, anziché nella Firenze degli anni ’70, camperebbero ancora oggi di rendita.
O forse a incidere è che l’unico componente originale rimasto sia Federico Fiumani.
Ad oggi ricopre il ruolo di autore e cantante ed è in grado di tenere ancora il palco per più di due ore come un ragazzo. Nonostante sia quasi vicino al rintocco delle 60 primavere.
Ad accompagnare Fiumani una formazione un po’ più giovanile. Edoardo Didone alla chitarra ritmica, Luca Cantasano al basso e Pino Gulli (ex CSI) alla batteria.
Diaframma: band cult fuori dal tempo
Si parte con Leggerezza ma nel senso più figurato possibile: questo è solo il titolo del brano che apre il nuovo disco e già è carico di una grinta che molto si differenzia dai lavori che hanno fatto entrare il gruppo nelle classifiche di tutte le riviste di settore.
Ma c’è spazio per ogni periodo che il gruppo ha affrontato durante la sua carriera: oltre alle canzoni dell’ultimo disco ecco quelli che avrebbero avuto tutte le carte vincenti per diventare tormentoni ed evergreen di Rock romantico come Labbra blu o L’odore delle rose. Addirittura riesce a far scendere e ballare in pista alcuni spettatori.
Il meglio però arriva con gli arrangiamenti dei pezzi provenienti da quel capolavoro che è Siberia (1984). Come un vino delle migliori botti, la musica del loro esordio pare acquisisca maggiore bellezza e fascino col passare del tempo. Questa nuova versione si distacca leggermente dall’originale ma mantiene un elevato livello di classe e maestria.
Si viene così a creare quello strato onirico, da fare rabbrividire ogni fan. Ricreano momenti nostalgici degli esordi duri come rocce, statici, grezzi. Ma allo stesso tempo una band che ha portato che porterà ancora per anni il nome della New Wave Italiana.
L’omaggio a Vasco Rossi
Due ore che passano fra una sigaretta e una birra gentilmente offerte dai fan sotto al palco. Giusto qualche piccolissimo intoppo che però non mina la serata e l’esibizione.
Quando tornano sul palco per il bis c’è spazio pure per la sorpresa: oltre che una cover di Vita spericolata, tutta a modo loro, anche due esibizioni a richiesta del pubblico. Ditemi voi chi lo fa ancora oggi?
Eugenio, che non li ha mai ascoltati, mi sorride e dice: ha qualcosa nella voce che mi ricorda Renato Zero. Sorrido di risposta anch’io e ragionandoci su mi accorgo che infondo la caratteristica della voce di Fiumani, che sostituisce Sassolini da quando questo ha lasciato il gruppo nel ’89, può esser proprio quella lieve aria roca che gratta sopratutto nelle note più alte.
Tommaso invece ci ripete durante l’esibizione dei vecchi pezzi: “Sprigionano sonorità anni ’80 da tutti i pori”. E non ha torto.
Durante quella decade, tanto amata dai nostalgici oggigiorno, band come gli Stadio spopolavano alla grande, dopo che nomi come Lucio Dalla, Franco Battiato e Vasco Rossi avevano ormai consolidato un nuovo modo di fare musica Pop e Rock d’autore. Ma i Diaframma, i concittadini Litfiba e gente come Fausto Rossi si scavavano una propria nicchia con sonorità quasi del tutto inesplorate e sconosciute alla massa.
Mentre i più sognavano su Futura o usavano Vado al massimo come canti di rivolta generazionale, chi viveva ai margini della società e si rispecchiava in quei pezzi cantati a metà fra il grido e l’eco profondo che vanno da Eroi nel vento ad Amsterdam.
Federico Fiumani: un eroe romantico
Fiumani però, a differenza dell’amico Pelù, non è finito col divenire la parodia di se stesso. Federico ha continuato dritto sulla sua strada, a scrivere le sue canzoni, a riprendere quelle passate per rinnovarle affinché continuassero ad adattarsi al passo dei tempi.
Grande artista sul palco e squisita persona fuori da esso, dotato di un’umanità sempre più rara nel mondo dello spettacolo oggi giorno. Basti pensare al fatto che ha rinunciato ad un evento a Genova ed ha accusato apertamente l’organizzatore per le molestie rivolte verso giovani ragazze.
Finché Federico continuerà a suonare potremmo esser sicuri che permetterà di sopravvivere e respirare alla buona musica, proprio come il muscolo che da il nome alla sua storica band.
